“Guange script”, an official handwriting style widely used in formal documents, since it appeared its practical characteristic made it a main stream in calligraphy in the Ming Dynasty. However, when it came to the Qing Dynasty, especially the middle and late period, for reasons of imperial examination and others, the different styles of “guange script” gradually lost their unique to become the same and it was considered to hinder the calligraphic improvements in the Qing dynasty. However, it was also believed that people should treat “guange script” with a rational and objective attitude.This article narrates the style change of “guange script” at different periods based on its origin, development and vicissitude with an introduction of representative calligraphers in the Ming and Qing Dynasty. The narration is practically focused on “guange script” under the background of that time which aims to reproduce its authenticity objectively.
