A Preliminary Study On The Metaphors Of Chinese Characters

This thesis is based on the Chinese version of The Sutra of Measurements for The Construction of Statues to study the ancient Chinese traditional law of Buddha. It is divided into three chapters, the argument is as follows:The first chapter is the basic study of the Chinese version The Sutra of Measurements for The Construction of Statues, including its source, the author, the translator reason and the basic content, etc. In addition, the legend in it is compared with Tibetan statues measure and the white coloured glaze.The second chapter is a brief introduction of the western human body proportion law, and comparing with the ancient Chinese traditional law of Buddha at the same time.The third chapter is the explanation of the ancient Chinese traditional law of Buddhist statues which is based on the Chinese version of The Sutra of Measurements for The Construction of Statues. With four northern provinces(Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Gansu) for illustration, analyzing the models in the history concretely.Due to having been accepted the western model training we tend to understand the western structure of human body scale instead of the ancient Chinese traditional Buddhist statues. And we even have misread the ancient Chinese traditional Buddhist statues. But now the Chinese version of The Sutra of Measurements for The Construction of Statues is understood again. It can make us feel that before the western scientific research of the structure of human body scale, China has grasped the system of Buddha completely. The ancient Chinese traditional law of Buddha is under the eastern horizon value evaluation, it not only explain the physique proportion relations of Buddha, but also help us to form the judgment of the traditional Chinese painting.
