There are a lot of practical contents in the textbooks of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, the purpose of these contents is to help students learn Chinese better and prepare for everyday communication. Almost in the curriculum for each popular Chinese textbook have a lesson or a unit teaching students how to go to see a doctor, which is related to pain and illness words. These words not only use in our daily lives, but also play an important role in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.In fact, we use pain and illness words in our daily life frequently, and the meanings are relatively fixed. Students will learn pain and illness words when they begin to learn Chinese, these words are also a necessary step for students to experience life in China. There are many pain and illness words can use not only when you describe how you feel to the doctor, in addition there are a lot of extended meanings. In the students’ daily life, the meaning swifts and the extended meanings are also very common. Effect of expression of such terms are vivid and sharp, these extended meanings used more in the spoken language, but also use frequently in daily life, it is necessary to study these words.The first chapter describes the significance of this study, research status, contents and methods. The second chapter illustrates these words in textbooks and HSK tests, and the actual situation of the students to learn and master. The third chapter lists these words that repeated several times in different textbooks, and focuses on the original meanings, the fourth chapter studies the extended meaning of such terms, the fifth chapter states other usage of these words, chapter six return to Teaching Chinese as a Second language, analysis the lacking of the popular textbooks, and propose the practical teaching order, instructional design, teaching methods and assessment methods and so on.This article analyze and summarize the words of pain and illness from many different perspectives, with a view to offer some help in the future of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, try to help students learn to communicate better, learn Chinese better in the future and prepare for their life and learning in China.
