Since Shi Shuo Xin Yu was written, this book was widely acclaimed. Nowadays, it even become an essential documental evidence for the researches of Wei and Jin Dynasties. However, we found that the present version of Shi Shuo Xin Yu is different from the book in history. When we research the old versions before Song Dynasty, we can find many words which no longer exist in current book. Most of these missing materials are not considered as the original parts of Shi Shuo Xin Yu because they are quite differ from existing context. Some researchers even believe that these words are mistaken by ancient people for various reasons. This dissertation wants to argue that the context that we can research today is the context that had a long history of being edited and transforming. Hence, what we can see today is the result of a long history of books’ spreading. This type of books have certain relationship with those historical books, but they are not entirely the same. Therefore, the research of the lost article of Shi Shuo Xin Yu is necessary. This study can not only help to strengthen the understanding of Shi Shuo Xin Yu, but also can help us to strengthen the understanding of document. The collection of lost article of Shi Shuo Xin Yu began in the Qing Dynasty. Scholars after him like Wang Liqi and Keiichi Furuta (Japan) did the same work too. Chapter one:shifting article, the uncertainty of the texts of Shi Shuo discuss different Shi Shuo Xin Yu in different dynasties, analysing the stability and instability of Shi Shuo by dividing the different types of the texts. Chapter two and Chapter three analysis the substances for different contents of Shi Shuo Xin Yu and explain why the traditional opinion that we can judge contents simply by documental similarity is improper. In the end, this paper reaches two results:firstly, the foundation of the opinion of "Shi Shuo Xin Yu is a novel describing human beings" is the mind of later people and is different from the intention of the original author.
