A Study On Zhu Zhi 's Theory Of "Explaining Words"

In Qing dynasty Zhu Jian’s "Shuowen under the guise of Yizheng" (here in after referred to as the "permit") is devoted to "under the guise of text of a book, which plays an important position in the six-script theory of Qing Dynasty. Based on the "righteousness" and as a research object according to Zhu’s other works, the theory and the other under the guise of philology contribution have conducted a comprehensive description and summary, and reasonable position in the history, so as to contribute to the history of Chinese philology, the induction and the summary.In the Introduction, first, it briefly introduces the origin of topic selection and the current academic research on research status of Zhu jian’s "Yizheng". Second, it is the research mentality and the method. In the history’s point of view, starting from the first hand materials, to evaluate Zhu’s study impersonally and fairly; In academic point of view, it extracts the judging principles of Jiajie, deepen the understanding and5 awareness of words of Jiajie in ancient books.The first chapter concerns about overview of Zhu Jian and his "Yizheng". It is introduction of Zhu and the edition the spread of "Yizheng" edition, probing into reason and purpose of written, and study the "card" a book arrangement and interpretation system.The second chapter refers the summary of Jiajie terms. According to "Fanli" added by Zhu Zhixu, it cleans up and conducts an inquiry about the Zhu’s theory and terms, such as Jiajie, Tongjie, Shengjie, Zhuanjie, Hujie, Linagjie, etc. Zhu’s analysis was a summary of the existing Jiajie in Qing Dynasty, which is more precise and profound to analysis Jiajie phenomenon. Also it is a new breakthrough. However, the term system is still has defects, For example, a term contains a variety of phenomena; a same phenomenon is represented by a variety of terms of logical chaos.The third chapter refers to the research of Zhu’s Jiajie viewpoint. In the determination of "Jiajie Yixiang", Zhu stressed the role of "Yizheng"; Zhu believes that besides the Jiajie of "Ben wu qi zi", Jijie all has its own original character. In order to ensure the principle of "Original word", Zhu selected different materials to argument "Original word" from the original meaning of "Shuo Wen"; Theoretically, Zhu put forward the analysis of "Fei Bi Jia Jie" to exclude the difference of words using and script confusion words of dialect in Jiajie. He had the awareness of making a clear scope of Jiajie words. However, Zhu was confused in some Jiajie matters, and he has confused the Jiajie with expounding. Zhu mainly treat Jiajie as the method of using words in literature, and usually compared the relationship between the original words and borrowed words. Zhu believes is in the last place of the six categories of Chinese characters, which is also an important means of "Ji Hanzi Zhi Yong". As a whole, Zhu’s Jiajie identification has inherited that of the Song, Yuan, Ming scholars, but also has its own unique innovation.Fourth chapter concerns success and failure of Zhu’s research. Success:Zhu’s Jiajie is the precision on the basis of predecessors’study, especially, "sound and symbols are stable, shape descriptor switch to increase or decrease." these phenomena were probed, It helps us to understand Chinese characters representation as the core of structure stability;. Jiajie got a new innovation that using meaning to evaluate the Jiajie words, it reflects a respect of the traditional exegetics and emphasizes the meaning; Various types of the character usage phenomena were linked and summarized as information for us to explore all kinds of characters relations. Thus it will be know each other better. The failure is mainly refers as bellows. The definition is too broad, mistaken, such as mistaken explanations words, synonyms, variant characters as Jiajie;, rigidly adhere to "Shuo Wen", forgetting words use, ignoring the actual development of Chinese characters, repeated the baseless assertion, treating the attached new words in "Shou Wen" as folk characters; confined to ancient books, neglecting investigation, an error on the part of the ancient commentaries uncritically to be judged; Only for Yizheng, thus make new doctrine in order to meet the needs of Yizheng, and even change the book and theory; Must look for original word, for uniformity, when the original meaning and the extended meaning can be interpreted, Zhu would find another " original word." The fundamental mistake of Zhu’s Jiajie is in its wrong view of "Yizheng"The fifth chapter studies on the contributions of Zhu Jian "Yizheng". From the evolution, the course of change and development of word form, it summarizes the development and evolution history of Chinese characters, and systemizes the discrimination of synonyms and collections of variant words. Zhu helps us distinguish the relationship between Jiajie and homology. His"Yizheng" also heps to understand the phonetic signs stabilized, token replacement phenomena. Form and structure will be adjusted because of changing of record, finally certain has special use.The sixth chapter is mainly about evaluation of the research methods of "Yizheng". Zhu’s research method has taken example by Han and song dynasty, convincing and having evidence, focusing on the advantages of unearthed relics. Theoretical logic was not that careful, and also a lack of knowledge of Chinese phonology.The conclusion refers that under the background of the six categories of Chinese characters in Qing Dynasty, after the overall analysis, Zhu’s research enjoys the basic position in academic history.
