The Relationship Between College Students' Narcissism And Romantic Relationship Satisfaction: The Role Of Self - Esteem And Emotion

Recent years have witnessed the western ideas of democracy and freedom occupied a certain market in China, especially by young people, under the background of the culture self-consciousness has been greatly strengthened, narcissism gradually emerges in our current culture, the study of college students’ narcissism showed that:in the past 24 years, college students’ level of narcissism is higher and higher.With the improvement of the college students’physiological and psychological function, love become more widespread which has certain positive prediction function to establish and maintain a good relationship for its stable into marriage, in addition to college students’ social adaptation and mental health also had a positive effect.Obviously study of college students’ narcissism and romantic relationship satisfaction has a profound theoretical and practical significance.Therefore this study proposed integrated predecessors about narcissistic personality theory and based on the results of empirical study, this study attempts to explore the relationship between narcissism and romantic partner’s satisfaction of college students:the roles of self-esteem and empathy.The study has adopted random sampling and 224 undergraduate students have participated in the questionnaire. After the analysis of the relationship between narcissism, self-esteem,empathy, romantic partner’s satisfaction and demographic variables of college students, this study explored what roles self-esteem and empathy play in the relationship between narcissism and romantic partner’s satisfaction.On the condition of this study,draw the following conclusions:1.There exists a correlation in college students’ narcissism, self-esteem,empathy and romantic partner’s satisfaction in gender, grades,love how long and love times.2.College students’narcissism and romantic relationship satisfaction exists significant negative correlation, the covert narcissistic and romantic relationship satisfaction significantly negative correlation, overt narcissism is not significantly negative correlation; narcissism and self-esteem exists significant negative correlation, the overt narcissistic and self-esteem significantly positive correlation, covert narcissism is significantly negative correlation; narcissism and empathy exists significant negative correlation.3. self-esteem plays a moderating role between narcissism and romantic relationship satisfaction.4.empathy plays a partly mediating role between covert narcissism and romantic relationship satisfaction.
