The Influence Of Narcissism On Subjective Well - Being And Academic Prediction

In the west, whether narcissism or social comparison are more popular themes, both in the domestic research themes are not mature, there are few study of narcissism related social comparison. Narcissism theory from Western psychology, initially in psychology, people think of narcissistic personality as a disorder. With the increase in research on narcissism, narcissism gradually as a normal personality traits, rather than pathological personality traits. Currently, many studies have shown that narcissistic personality traits are not completely same, narcissistic person also has different characteristics. There are two forms of narcissism:overt and covert narcissism. Overt and covert narcissism both have self-aggrandizing and seeking others’identify, but then also have significant differences, overt narcissism has a very dominant exaggerated desire of showing, on the other side covert has shown a sensitive and fragile.Social comparison is a common phenomenon in human society, people define their social characteristics (such as ability, intelligence, etc.) in real life, we often compare ourselves with others around. Social comparison gets the significance of various characteristics under comparative social environment, rather than purely defined according to objective criteria. In 1954, Festinger defined this phenomenon as social comparison. Social comparison can be called interpersonal comparison, is a common phenomenon of social psychology. Social comparison is inevitable in human society and it has important theoretical and practical value.Some studies show that narcissists with downward comparison to maintain their inflated self concept, but there is no studies of the relationship between two types of narcissism and social comparison. Using the method of questionnaire and experiment to explore the differences between overt and covert narcissism and subjective well-being, academic prediction under social comparison. This study is divided into two parts:a discussion of research on subjective well-being of two types of narcissism under three ways of social comparison; study two investigates the effects on academic prediction of two types of narcissism under three ways of social comparison. The main results of the research are:(1) Under the different social comparison, overt and covert narcissism on subjective well-being and academic prediction of the effect are consistent.(2)Under the different social comparison, there are significant differences between covert narcissism on subjective well-being and academic prediction.(3)Under the different social comparison, overt narcissism on subjective well-being and academic prediction does not exist significant differences.
