In the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the verb research, especially the study of polysemous verbs is one of the important subjects. This thesis based on the study of related theory, making an systematic and comprehensive investigation on the "Chinese Verb Usage Dictionary" through the statistic analysis and contrastive analysis of data, aims to find the characteristics of Chinese polysemous verbs and verb-object collocation rules, and to propose the teaching strategies of Chinese polysemous verbs on the basis of research results. The first chapter of this thesis is based on the investigation on the "Chinese Verb Usage Dictionary", counting out 13 polysemous verbs types including 2 meaning items, 3 meaning items and so on,and the analysis of the grade distribution of 406 polysemous verbs in the"Chinese Proficiency Glossary and Chinese Characters Grade Outline” made indicates the verbs’ distribution and the number of meaning items have a certain relationship: with the increase of the number of meaning items, the distribution of C and D grade vocabulary is gradually reduced. The second chapter based on the collection and investigation of 13 types of polysemous verbs and 406(1226 meaning items)verbs finds out that there is a certain relationship between the amount of verbs’ meaning items and the types of objects tied: meaning items of verbs are less, the object types are less relatively. Through making an analysis of the 14 objects types tied(patient, location, result, tool, cause, object, method.tool, purpose, time, reason, agent, hybrid, equality, homologous) concludes that the types of the objects tied in the common meaning of polysemous verbs ranging from more to less are:patient, location, result, tool, agent, object(cause),method, hybrid, purpose, equality, homologous, time(reason), the types of the objects tied in the special meaning of polysemous verbs ranging from more to less are: patient, location, result, object, agent(cause), tool, hybrid, equality, purpose, method, time, homologous, reason(object). The third chapter based on the vocabulary grade distribution of polysemous verbs, the amount of semantic items and the objects tied, the frequency of common meaning and special meaning, the collection rules of verbs with high frequency and low frequency objects points out that in the process of Chinese as a foreign language teaching, the teacher should pay attention to comparing the verb-object collocation’s differences between Chinese and the learners’ native language, distinguishing the common meaning and special meaning of Chinese polysemous verbs on the basis of polysemous verbs’ grade distribution and carrying on the teaching according to the characteristics of semantic items of Chinese polysemous verbs.
