National cultural word can contain national history and culture, inherit tradition and custom, it also can reveal national integrity. National cultural word is an important and difficult part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This paper bases a comprehensive study of national cultural word, it uses research content of lexicology, contrastive linguistics, cross-cultural communication, cultural linguistics. This paper combines literature study method, classification method and comparative research, case study, survey method and observation method. National cultural word has national, epochal, stable,concise,non-literal meaning characteristics. This paper divides national cultural word into seven categories: Mingwu words,Zhengyu words with symbolic or rhetorical meaning, idioms, proper nouns, words of system, allusion words and communicative words.In this paper, I combine the questionnaire and my own teaching experience, come to result: students with different learning phase accept different level of Chinese knowledge, the different categories of national cultural word has its own level of difficulty. The teacher should teach corresponding national cultural word according to student’s learning level.This paper according to the results of the questionnaire, whether national cultural word intuitive, commonly used, whether national cultural word has single meaning, whether it involves historical stories, whether students understand the difficulties of it,I divide national cultural word into different levels of difficulty. What’s more, I offer different teaching methods and advice according to different level of difficulty about national cultural word.In the end of this paper, I summarizes teaching Chinese as a foreign language in the national cultural word should comply with three principles which are proceeding in an orderly way, moderation and pertinency. I hope this paper can provide certain reference to the teaching Chinese as a foreign language in national cultural word.
