Liu Qiang, a local opera of Qingdao, originated from Dagu river basin which intersecting Pingdu city and the west of Jimo city and became popular in Jiaodong peninsula. It belongs to Zhou Gu Zi operatic tune and has a history of 200 years.Liu Qiang uses Si Hu as its main accompaniment instrument. The performers sing along to the tune of Si Hu, follow it and change with the tune. Based on this, Liu Qiang has come into being.Liu Qiang boasts with more than 120 traditional repertoires which mainly tell traditional folk tales which people are delighted to hear and see. These repertoires are easy to understand and close to everyday life, thus they become popular among people and gain the reputation of “The Art Follower of Jiaodong”.This essay took Liu Qiang’s current position and development in urban and rural areas as the main research object and made deep analysis of the natural and cultural environment in which Liu Qiang was rooted, its musical characteristics andaccompaniment forms.Investigations were made of the origins of the professional and amateur performing groups of Liu Qiang in urban and rural areas, their composition and structures as well as the individual performing cases. From the perspective of contemporary history, this essay made comprehensive analysis and discussion of the inheritance and development of Liu Qiang.The author tracked on the spot, made videos and took photos with the method of field investigation of ethnomusicology, genuinely presenting the living and developing situation of Liu Qiang.This essay was expected to provide some valuable references for the inheritance and protection of Liu Qiang, one of the National Intangible Cultural Heritages.
