Since the1980s, many kinds of literary works about urban-rural areas have blossomed and widely spreaded in the republic of letters. In the meantime, a number of outstanding writers and critics have come to the fore by write the urban-rural developments in the reform and opening-up. In a large category of urban-rural literature, the adjoining moiety, which focuses the adjoining area between urban and rural, is selected as the topic of this thesis. According to detailed analyses and in-depth discussions of several representative works of the adjoining urban-rural literature, the social connotation and realistic significance as well as the specific contents of the urban-rural culture-clash are uncovered in this thesis. This is expected to lead one to think about the way to construct new advancements in civilization, which is crucial to the development and success of the reform and opening-up. Furthermore, attentions are also be paid to the living state study of the people in rural area adjacent to the urban edge or in urban area adjacent to the rural district, with the perspective of social cultural psychology combined the theories of politics, philosophy, sociology and anthropology.The "case study" method is employed in this thesis. The nature of the adjoining urban-rural literature is revealed by exhaustive investigation of special individual cases. The results of the specific cases are extrapolated and sublimated to scientific conclusions with universal guiding significance. China’s reform and opening up, or China’s urbanization, dubbed "the socialism with Chinese characteristics" is different from the developed countries’ industrial revolution. Also, it can hardly be inspired by the history of the international community. However, history has proven that this extremely difficult and spectacular reform has achieved tremendous periodical results, which is still far away from success-the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Therefore, the study about "the correlation between the literary works and the social development or the survival of human being" is of historical and practical significance.)There are so much writing enthusiasm along with the wave of reform. The writing about urban-rural areas has taken shape. The concept of "adjoining urban-rural literature" is defined in the "introduction" section via combing and distinguishing literary concepts related to the writing about urban-rural areas. The "case study" method as well as its feasibility is also introduced. Several representative works in the adjoining urban-rural literature—"Huansheng Chen’s Entering the City","Life","Fickleness","Loach" and "State Order" are selected as the typical cases. The first chapter discusses the urban-rural residents’ understanding of the urbanity as well as the influence of the commodity consciousness on them. In the second chapter, these works are decomposed according to several essential elements of the literary creation. The analysis of the literature ingredient in the adjoining urban-rural areas further reveals the aggressive urban culture and the retrogressive rural culture, and the conceivable result of the competition with each other. Moreover, with the combination of the theories in sociology, politics and survival, the thesis predicts that the probable future of the urban-rural areas is the poetical habitat.
