Artistic creation is not only the ultimate goal of an artist, but the embodiment of his/her artistic accomplishments. I have experimented a wide variety of artistic styles in my creation over these three years of my graduate program. I have explored the artistic languages and expression media that fit me the most. I have put a great effort in the research of techniques, shaping, coloring, composition, spatial processing, the use of black and white, and the employment of pen and ink among other things. I have created a lot of works, accumulated much experience, and made a great breakthrough in terms of the expression of the images. In the first chapter of the Book, I described how I collected the materials, conceived the ideas and adjusted the sketches. Each and every creation idea was derived from my own life experiences. Art comes from life yet goes beyond that. I made ceaseless efforts and put meticulous thoughts for every one of my sketches. In the second chapter, the discussion is focused on artistic languages and the employment of new ink painting, combining and integrating the shape modeling and the expression techniques. I strived to make sure each and every stroke serve the purpose of shaping patterns, making them more expressive and powerful. Also, I’ve made some new attempts, in the light of fact that all kinds of paintings are connected in their concepts, and differ only in the expression of the techniques and the effect of their present. From there, I ventured to borrow some elements of oil painting and printmaking so as to enrich the pictures. The third chapter discusses the picture composition, the spatial display as well as the use of black and white. The picture composition and the formality of its presentation are mutually integrated. Drawing on the rules and layout patterns of traditional Chinese painting, the attention has been placed on the overall charm of the composition. The use of black and white was well thought, both in terms of overall planning and partial rendering. Plus, the western shading was utilized to enrich the overall effect.
