Naum Gabo (1890-1977) is considered to be one of the most creative person in history of Russian Avant-courier Art. Throughout his life he was traveling around the world, from Munich to Oslo, from Moscow to Berlin, from Paris to London, in the end to stay in the United States.Gabo as the leading figure of the Russian constructivism and the master in abstract sculpture, has won the international reputation.In his life,Naum Gabo created a large number of works that are held in the collections of the world’s most influential museums and private collectiors, a part of the works have been enlarged to be public art.As an artist with engineering background,Naum Gabo entirely self-taught, in terms of art for art keen intuition led him to become one of the best of that era.He created a kind of symbiotic relationship between sculpture and architecture, a lot of which were with monuments;He was one of the artists who firstly introduced transparent materials such as perspex and plastic,into creative works.He found a balance between science and art,and is one of the pioneers who introduced dynamic elements into art. At the same time, he published a lot of articles about art and worked as an editor for magazines. He also designed for the ballet stage set and costume and participated in the Soviet union palace construction bidding.Gabo showed his great artistic talent in many fields.His works produced extensive and profound effect on his fellow artists and the new generation artists.This article attempts to answer those questions that how his artistic thought was formed and what his unique contributions and the significance of his art to our time. In order to do that, this article would try to study the artistic background,his life experience,ideology and exploration with art.Given that there is no any Chinese monographs of Naum Gabo, a lot of resources of this paper come from a foreign language literature,Natalia Sidlina.Naum Gabo[M].London:Tate Publishing,2012.This book roughly draws the outline of Naum Gabo’s life, a life of pursuit of art.Exploring the art of Naum Gabo, would provide great guiding significance for my future artistic creation no matter in theory and practice. At the same time,I hope this paper would provide some reference value for those people who like Naum Gabo’s works.
