A Study On The Life Thought Of Dongpo Yi Chuan

Dong-po Yi Zhuan is the masterpiece of Su Shi on philosophy.In nearly a thousand years,Su Shi was famous for his literature achievements.Actually,Su Shi had also made remarkable achievements in the field of philosophy.He was one of the founders and the main representative figure of Shu Studies,which is an important philosophical school in the Northern Song Dynasty.Su Shi himself also believed that the most important achievements in his life were in philosophy.When Su Shi wrote Dong-po Yi Zhuan,he took Confucianism as fundamental, and absorbed the integration of the other schools of thought.Dong-po Yi Zhuan was standing out of the thinkers of the Northern Song Dynasty,which paid attention to the value of life, and promoted the freedom of human nature.At present, there is a controversy in the academic circles for the authorship of Dong-po Yi Zhuan.Some scholars insist that it was written by the Three Sus(Su Xun,Su Shi,and Su Zhe),and some attributed it only to Su Shi.But it can’t be denied that,the main idea still belonged to Su Shi.Dong-po Yi Zhuan was the crystallization of Su Shi’s philosophy indeed.Su Shi had always been an optimistic and broad-minded man.His revel adaptive personality and life attitude had influenced generations of scholars,also were deeply loved by the people of all ages. There was a great relationship between the life thoughts of Su Shi and reading Zhou Yi.Dong-po Yi Zhuan contained a wealth of life thoughts,which were based on Su Shi’s personal life experience,and it had become the most shining part of Su Shi’s philosophy.The life thoughts in Dong-po Yi Zhuan can be summarized as “The natural principle of life” and “The power of man”. From the natural principle of life, Dong-po Yizhuan expounds the naturalistic tendency of the generation of life and its characteristics.Su Shi expresses the theory of universe generation of “Being from non-being”, for he believes that “Non-being” is the initial start; “Being”is the generation of things; “Yi”refers to the “Tao” running in-betweens when life of all things is endless and when the change of good and bad as well as gain and loss is complete. Dong-po Yizhuan holds that the law of unity of opposites —“Things are combined with each other” is the inner force to promote the changes of life: All kinds of changes in life are formed based on the opposite sides in the identity and the harmonious and perfectly-fused unity of which constitutes the complete thing-in-itself. Dong-po Yizhuan hasexpressed some natural characteristics of life: life given by God can never be changed;Fate and fortune are changing and uncertain; Nature is natural and invisible, so does of man and it can never be measured by ethical standards and social attributes.Natural essence based on life is partly discussed in the section of “The power of man”and to be specific, that is, how to spend one’s life and how to compromise one’s own life with the real world and rough fortunes. Dong-po Yizhuan believes that man is supposed to “born to follow life” and to wait for the arrival of destiny without quiet mood; Born in adversity, keep the endless life movement; Attach importance to and seize the opportunities in life. Su Shi also puts forward the connotation of “Ideal life personality” : Born to be responsible, man should take up the responsibility for the society and the times; Sizing up the situation, take different actions depending on the different situation to gain success; Be honest with others, for sincere honesty enables the establishment of irrefutable friendship.There are a lot of practical significance for the research of the life thoughts of Dong-po Yi Zhuan.In terms of theory, Su Shi always retained the idea of independent personality and freedom.Therefore,we should learn, inherit and carry forward the independent thinking, proactive and innovative spirit of theoretical innovation.We should dare to challenge the authority and rules.To form our own learning style.For the life of modern people,we should face the fate and the joy calmly.Maintain a positive state of life.Grasp the opportunity to assess the situation.
