In order to prosper the Confucianism, Li Ao, a famous Confucian of Tang Dynasty, wrote Returning of Human Nature in three chapters. He assimilated the theories of human nature from Buddhism and Taoism. Sticking to Confucianism as the basic theme of thinking, he re-emphasized the importance of the sutras of Confucianism such as Zhong Yong and Yi Zhuan. In Li Ao's book Returning of Human Nature, he announced the concept of sincerity, which was similar to the Thought ofNoumenon in some way. At the same time, Li Ao absorbed the Buddhism patterns of thinking called One-Mind-Two-Principles and Instinct in the book of Mahay ana. After giving new explanations on the relationship between human nature and human feelings of laymen and sages, Li Ao claimed systematically the possibility, necessity and the concrete measures of Depressing human feelings and Regaining human nature. The new theory of human nature of Li Ao was a great break-though compared with the Three Qualities of Human Nature Theory of Han & Tang Dynasty. Answering the reasons of co-existence of kindness and evil in human nature from his ground, Li Ao established the basis of the Thought of Human Nature of Confucianism, which was later matured in the Song Dynasty.
