Based on the Interpretive Theory and the Chinese ancient verses cited by President Xi Jinping during the 2015, this thesis puts forward the coping strategies in terms of the interpretation of Chinese ancient verses. According to the three stages of the Interpretive Theory, the author thinks that the interpreter should first fully understand the verses on lexical, sentence and discourse level; then, go through the procedure called “deverbalization”; finally, express the meaning in the way that can be understood by the listeners. The interpreters may encounter some difficulties during these three stages. In order to overcome these difficulties, the author proposes four strategies, including literal interpretation which remains the sentence structure and uses word-to-word interpretation, free interpretation considering the discourse level and the cultural barriers, amplification focusing on adding logical connectives and explanations and omission which emphasizes more on the context and omits the words with the same meaning. These strategies will not only help interpreters improve their capabilities in Chinese ancient verses interpretation, but also increase their working efficiency in this field.
