Confucian Thought Of Rule Of Virtue And Its Modern Value

The Confucian thought of rule of virtue is a cherished part of our traditional political culture. Although it is supposed to serve the centralized feudal monarchy, there are many governance conceptions, which are useful for the development of modern society. The article reviews the historical value and limitation of the political idea by explaining its historical development and the fundamental connotation. On this foundation, the article discusses the modern value of the Confucian thought of rule of virtue. Singapore and South Korea are profoundly modern countries and deeply influenced by the Confucian thought of rule of virtue. The article dug the modern value of the thought by analyzing its modern value in Singapore and South Korea and the enlightenments to our country, which includes political culture, the relation between morality and law, the building of Party style and moral education and so on. Lastly, the article discussed the methods of realizing the modern value of the Confucian thought of rule of virtue.
