China is one of the first countries that step into the Bronze Age. Bating back to the Shang period(1600-1046BC), China has entered the Bronze civilization. Developed in the subsequent periods of Western Zhou, East Zhou(including the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States) and Han, the Bronze civilization has fully blossomed. Therefore, the Chinese bronze is a landmark both mentally and materially. In China, the bronze ware has played an important and irreplaceable role in every aspect of the social life in the Bronze Age. The bronze ware is an object made of tin and cooper, including tools, utensils, sacrificial wares, weapons, decorations, etc. While the bronze ware in archaeology specifically refers to the green or livid object that is made in the pre-Qin days and is made of copper mixed with little tin and plum bum. Generally speaking, the bronze ware consists of tools, weapons, food wares, wine wares, water wares, musical instruments and decorations.Baoji, in Shanxi province, is an important area in the development of the bronze. The bronze ware unearthed in this area features the long history, broad scope, large quantity and full range. Especially the inscription, reflecting the politics, economy, culture and folk of the Zhou period, is one of the significant cultural heritages. The unearthed bronze, including wares of food, wine, water, music and weapon, is the symbol of prosperous bronze civilization. Based on the bronze wares of the Zhou period unearthed in Baoji, this paper sorts and analyzes the bronze instruments in order to deeply appreciate the value of the bronze instruments and the culture of etiquette and music on the basis of previous researches.The paper is composed of four parts:The first part is the introduction. The reason of choosing this theme is explained. The historical importance of the bronze instruments(unearthed in Baoji) in musicology is described particularly. The object, measures and purpose of this research are introduced briefly.The second part is chapter one. The history and culture of Baoji are summarized. The true values of Baoji’s history and culture are appreciated from the aspects of geography environment, ethnic resources, bronze civilization and bronze instruments.The third part is chapter two. The bronze instruments that are unearthed in Baoji are studied much more clearly with the specific categories of chimes, Fu, Tongnao. Copper bells, Duo and so on.The fourth part is chapter three. The casting technology of bronze instruments unearthed in Baoji is introduced in details in order to deeply understand the decorations, inscriptions and casting processes of the bronze instruments. The fifth part is chapter four. The historical influence of the Baoji’s bronze instruments is discussed. The relations of bronze instruments, the etiquette and music culture of Zhou period and the aesthetic thought of Confucian are analyzed and the true values are digested.The sixth part is the conclusion. The history, types and casting technology of the bronze instruments unearthed in Baoji are summarized. The etiquette and music culture of Zhou period is recognized through sorting and analyzing. The relation between bronze instruments and the etiquette and music culture is explored deeply.
