Confucian mansion, also known as sheng fu, is the place where the descendants of Confucius lived. Since the Qing dynasty emperor Kang Xi years the descendants of Confucius started to live separately due to the increase of their number. Confucian mansion evolved into the mansion of the eldest sons and grandsons of Confucius, also known as yan sheng gong fu. The existing buildings of Confucian mansion was started to build at the Ming dynasty, before then,it was known as "Xi feng house" or "Xi feng Xie Department". The development of Confucian mansion relies on the rulers’ respect for Confucius. Ming and Qing dynasties rulers’ respect for Confucius rose to the highest in history, so as the development of Confucian mansion. After the Kang xi and Qian long, Confucian mansion began to decline gradually. Obviously the decline of Confucian mansion is due to the collapse of the feudal system. However, in addition to this,there are also other reasons. This article tries to find the reasons from the daily life of the owner of Confucian mansion- yan sheng gong. For example, through the analysis of the changes of the duke of yan sheng gong and the preferential treatment they got from all previous dynasties,the author wants to analyze the management responsibilities of yan sheng gong. In addition, in order to fairly and objectively reflect their life as much as possible, the author adds the analysis of the entertainment and spiritual life. By the analysis of yan sheng gong’s daily life, the author aims to deepen the understanding of the decline of Confucian mansion due to its closure as well as poor management.
