In 1980 s,the discovery of Huang Qiuyuan and Chen Zizhuang one after another showed the vitality of traditional Chinese painting. The two always held fast to tradition in the era of skepticism to traditional Chinese painting, grasped the traditional essence with respective characteristics from savvy, and got their own perception and experience in different ways, which had been poured into their words of the Chinese mountains-and-waters painting. In the modern transitional period of mountains-and-waters painting, it is of great significance that the two digest and develop the tradition. They can be seen basically as the subsequent successor and pioneer after Huang Binhong in the domain of mountains-and-waters painting in spite of not mature. Meanwhile, compared to earlier generations they integrate period feel into their works, achieve inheritance in different ways from different levels of spirit and form, and induce a new train of thought, which has a great reference value for returning to past tradition now. |
