In 1954, the first detective series Fabian of the Yard was on the screen. During 62 years, Britain has published many classic detective dramas. Those plays show the excellent craftsmanship of traditional British drama. In the 1980 s, two British detective dramas, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie’s Poirot, had been broadcasted. Both of them got the recognition of the world on quality and reputation.Based on the view of narratology, this article arrange the development of British detective dramas and focus on character set, narrative features, image narrative. Through case analysis of a large number of detective dramas, the article draw a conclusion: the relationships of traditional characters of British detective dramas remain unchanged; their narrative features include fixed narrative structure and constant narrative theme; elements and different symbols constitute the characteristics of image narrative of British detective drama. British detective dramas in stick to traditional narrative mode, on the basis of continuous innovation, present the development trend of the stability of change.
