This paper aims to explore the characteristics of figures and numbers at economics conferences, where much higher frequency of figures and numbers, as well as big numbers, is often observed. Methods of training were suggested to improve interpreters’ competence in dealing with number interpretation difficulties at such conferences, through improving short-term memory and increasing sensitivity to numbers themselves and to differences in number expressions between Chinese and English. Effectiveness of these training methods was tested with the author’s own training experiences, which proved these methods to be effective. |
