A Study On The Creation Of "The Ninth Symphony" By Shostakovich

Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony is created after the Second World War. This symphony contains Shostakovich’s evaluation towards the victory of the Second World War, as well as the Soviet Union and the world people’s expectations towards Shostakovich. Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony, however, is a big surprise. The reason is that Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphonyseemingly contains no joy of victory. Shostakovich had indicated to create a symphony with a chorus, but the result failed to accord. This symphony is short, with funny content, and even ironic. Shostakovich had said he was sad that we did not really understand the music he created. Then there is only one possibility: people misunderstood the Ninth Symphony. This paper intends to analyze Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony from all angles, presented the author’s view to distance the misunderstandings from the people.
