Stravinsky, Igor (Fyodorovich), one of the most famous composers in 20th century, had five works named "symphony" in his life. This paper mainly studies Symphony in C, one of the most classical pieces in the neoclassic time which was the most important time of Stravinsky. This piece clearly displayed his neoclassic characteristics of objectivity and rationality and his composing style of variability and uniformity, and had particular effect by the skilled use of a series of musical materials and composing techniques.This paper chiefly analyses and studies the structure, material, harmony, melody, rhythm, texture, polyphony and orchestration of Symphony in C by classification, in order to understand deeply the precise composing style, the unique musical language rich in charm, the spirit of keeping up with the age, trying to find out the aesthetic expression deep in the piece, and also hopes that this paper can in some way enlighten the musical creation of China.There are three chapters in this paper:The first chapter gives a brief account of the symphony of Stravinsky, especially Symphony in C.The second chapter is the main part and fully analyses the shape of Symphony in C: the structure, material, harmony, melody, rhythm, texture, polyphony and orchestration.The third chapter summarizes the former parts and discusses the inspiration Stravinsky's concept and aesthetics of composing brought to the development of modern music in China. |
