With the development of global economic integration, the footsteps of the mutual penetration in the the world culture has become increasingly accelerated. In the process of cultural integration, our minority culture is facing the crisis of being assimilated during its continuous development. When the minority culture lacks, attention, which is hardly to be inherited.(Under the influence of the foreign superior culture, it is so harsh for our ethnic culture to be inherited. However the element of our minority culture is viewed as an inexhaustible treasure in Chinese traditional culture, among which the element of art had gone through a development thousand years history of precipitation, covering the specialities of the ancient Chinese working people towards aesthetics and regional features. The color modelling, and totem worship embodying from the ethnic minority culture indicate the nation’s historical and cultural roots, religious beliefs, and other important information which is the most valuable cultural resources in our traditional culture, containing a variety of forms, abundant species, and profound history with valuable intelligence, emotion, science and technology, embodying the jist our ancestor’s creation. However, in the process of cultural integration, these precious material culture resources has been gradually ignored. Some designers have a servile attitude to foreign things in their designs whose works lack of our local features due to their overturning of our national rich culture which indirectly leads to the loss of our ethnic art cultural resources as a result it becomes impossible to be ranged on the top. It is obvious many successful artistic works including those masterpieces accepted around the world are recognized as a model of traditional culture heritage. One of the reason is their focus on localization, sharing the essence of Chinese traditional art, creating based on the substances of our traditional culture can we bring into excellent design works in line with the modern aesthetic, and inheriting our local culture. Thus the design teaching reformation becomes urgently imperative, which is suitable and necessary to understand and excavate the cultural relics of the folk art in Yunnan, using for the development of art and applying it to the design of contemporary art education.This paper focuses on the research of characteristics of minority fine arts and the existing problems of Yunnan Minority art heritage, taking Yunnan Institute of economy and Management for example which analyzes the relationship between ethnic art elements and design and mainly focuses on the combination of ethnic culture and the teaching practice of the art design major. It aims to improve the integration of the minority fine arts and curriculums and provides references for local or similar professional curriculum reform with a view to lay foundations for the inheritance of our Chinese traditional culture and make the national art element as a symbol of China.
