An Analysis Of The Criticism On The Narrative Pattern Of The Great Reunion In The Period Of The May 4th Movement

In the early twentieth century, Western Tragedy spread to China. But the phenomenon that the Western Tragedy had a tragic ending while the Chinese classical drama ended with a happy ending which caused great attention of scholars. Scholars tried to introduce Western Tragedy into China, and at the same time, they also wanted to treat the abnormal state of spirit of people, when the powerful western culture came to China. Influenced by "Pragmatism", scholars wanted to use Western Tragedy as an effective tool for social criticism and the public enlightenment transformation of national character.Wang Guowei and some representatives’ s happy ending criticism of Chinese classical drama are discussed based on the reason why the Chinese and Western Classical Tragedy presents two opposite outcome study, and their research has begun to research national culture and popular cultural psychology and so on. Hu Shi and Lu Xun are the representative of scholars whose opinions are based on criticism of social revolution, in order to promote Western Tragedy Theory to improve or eliminate the old classical drama, the establishment of Western drama, they found an important role in the drama of salvation preached ideological aspect. Criticism has brought a false peace pervaded the atmosphere of malaise and decadent society.Chinese classical drama and western tragedy have two different endings, this is based on two different cultures. What’s the reason that Chinese classical drama’s endings are always happy ending. Why the public opinion stand in one-sided criticism of the ranks of "happy reunion" in the the May 4th Movement. What artistic value the Chinese classical drama has as a form of dramatic art. These issues will be answered in the paper.
