In the era of information explosion, media has become an essential channel for people toobtain information. With the advance of the construction of the rule of law in China, judicialactivities are increasingly played an more important role in our lives. Particularly serious criminalcases produce huge social impact by the report of media. Demands for justice of public flow intopublic opinions, inevitably affect the outcome of the criminal trial. This article focuses onmechanisms about how the media coverage influences criminal justice. It can be regulatedseparately from the perspective of the media and the courts.The article is divided into four parts. The first part is about the overview of media reports onthe impact of the criminal justice. Media coverage is a double-edged sword, which has positiveimpact and negative impact to criminal trial. The author describes the current status of the impactof media coverage on the criminal trial. The second part is the main part of the article discusses.From the perspective of the mechanism, the author analyzes approaches and models of mediareports on the impact of criminal justice,The author draw out different impact mechanism,which is simple impact mechanism and complex impact mechanism through the analysis. Thefactors of impact mechanism interact each other. Media bias leads to public opinion impacting oncourt. However, court is not independent from other power and case information fails to timelyreach to the public which can mislead the audience. The third part is about media regulation bycompleting rules of criminal cases reported and strengthening media self-regulation. The forth partis about court regulation through reforming the judicial system to safeguard the independence ofjudges, standardizing procedures outside the judiciary remarks and guaranteeing the timelydisclosure of case information.The end of the paper is reiterated the author’s point of view and forecasted the future ofmedia reports impact on criminal trial.
