Compared with its level of economic development, Indian media are in an "advanced" developmental stage and with a trend of rapid growth, which leads to the fact that Indian media have a great influence on domestic India. Its relations with Indian government have also been readjusted many times, with each time strengthening the former’s impact on the latter. Due to some historical reasons and the fact that China and India are bordering countries, Indian media always pay close attention to China, which also exerts influence on India’s strategies towards China.Owing to the vicissitudes of Sino-India relations, the keynote of India’s presses concerning China have also changed correspondingly. In view of history, there are altogether three major readjustments of the keynote of the presses concerning China: years of1949-1962witnessed Indian media’s attitude towards China shift from amiable to hostile; from1962to1988the hostility gradually became moderate because of international situations and the social changes within India, with the symbolizing fact that instead of absolutely denying the visits of Chinese leaders, governors of India began to argue about the benefits and harms of the visits; afterwards, presses concerning China is in want of a keynote; with the mainstream maintaining positive, negative notes can always be heard from time to time. There are many factors that contributed to the shift of India’s presses concerning China. The thesis begins from the analysis of two theories that are believed to greatly influence Indian media-Theories of Influences on Mass Media Content and Institutional pressures on mass communicators, from which three factors are concluded:the nature of Indian media, official factor, and social factor. And there also remains the possible influence from international factor considering that India is a developing country. The reasons that causes India’s inconsistent attitude towards China are analyzed from the four perspectives. Then, the thesis focuses on how Indian media influence Sino-India relations, through which the conclusion is made:the ways they influence Sino-India relations manifests intensely the characteristics of "Agenda setting" and "The spiral of silence" theories. Through case analysis, the effect of Indian media’s impact, both positive and negative, is summed up.To conclude, although Indian media’s impact on Sino-India relations is limited, it should be in no case neglected. On account of the above, the writer adopts the concept of Media Diplomacy, and considers that media diplomacy should be included in China’s overall diplomatic work with India, making full use of the profits while shielding the disadvantages, so to ensure a more desirable basis of public opinion for Sino-India relations.
