Ideas Of Ideological And Political Education: Symbolization: Shaping, Identity And Change

Lei Feng has been a spiritual symbol in China for over half a century. Back in1960s, he stood out with his distinct class stand, moral standards and communist style. As a symbol of national spirit, Lei Feng has exerted great influences on society and people’s thoughts. With the passage of time, the society and people’s values changed. Such being the case, Lei Feng’s image is being challenged in the new era. Nevertheless, the energies and values Lei Feng’s spirit entails are still indispensable for the great causes of building socialism with Chinese characteristics and establishing a harmonious society. Thus, it is of great significance for us to work out the values of Lei Feng’s spirit and the ways to carry out "Learning from Lei Feng" campaigns in the new era. This thesis is an attempt to study Lei Feng’s spirit from its shaping, identification to its transformation in the new era for the purpose of guiding the shaping and nurturing of role models for ideological and political education in the new era.This thesis is composed of four parts. Part one is an introduction about research background, research significance, research methodology, research status on the topic and definitions of relevant concepts.Part two is a case study which tells the shaping and identification of Lei Feng’s spirit.In this part, the author of this thesis analyzes the social background and morality in the1960s when Lei Feng’s spirit started to mould together with Lei Feng’s image and his personality traits, introduces the publicity means of Lei Feng’s spirit and tells the different spirits learned in different eras since the "Learning from Lei Feng" campaigns were widely carried out.Part three is also a case study which tells the relationship between role models and the passage of time. In this part, the author of this thesis analyzes the subjective and objective reasons why social changes would have great impacts on the images of role models by introducing the great changes of Lei Feng’s spirit in terms of position, image and influence in the new era. Meanwhile, the author expounds on the contemporary values of Lei Feng’s spirit and the necessity to normalize the "Learning from Lei Feng" campaigns in the new era so as to extend Lei Feng’s image and spirit to the new era. Part four is the conclusion part which offers the author’s thoughts on shaping role models for ideological and political education in the modern era. Based on the necessity for role models to last long as well as the case study of Lei Feng’s spirit from its shaping, identification to transformation in the new era, the author of this thesis tries to work out a way for shaping and nurturing role models for ideological and political education in the new era in order to guarantee the models’guidance on values, thoughts and culture in the new era. Meanwhile, the publicity means of role models should go with the changes of time so as to conform to the trends of diversified images, diversified publicity means, multi-level value orientation and human-oriented emotional appeal.
