A Comparative Study Of Modern Local Autonomy

The local self-government is a kind of local governance, but also a way to resolve the contradiction between central and local. Influenced by the different historical and cultural traditions, the national structures of the local self-government show a wide range of features in those Western Countries. However, the common features of the local self-government presenting in the process of political restructurings of those countries including:1)to be developed a basic constitutional principles;2)to entitle the legal status of a local government or local self-governing community;3)to entitle the local autonomy through division the scopes of authority of the central and local;4) the contradiction between central and local is decided by the judiciary ruling.As a developing country, China is in a dilemma, facing with the double pressure from the economic development and the constitutional transition, the conflicts between the central and local are serious. Through the investigation and analysis of the local self-government of Western Countries, I can make a conclusion that the legalization of local self-government is the key to resolve the contradictions between the China’s central and local.
