A Study Of The Ideological And Political Work Of The Communist Youth League In Colleges And Universities Under The Socialist Core Values

The Communist Youth League of China, also known as the Communist Youth League (hereafter, the C YL in short), a mass organization of advanced youth led by Communist Party of China (hereafter the CPC in short), is regarded as a bridge between the CPC and the youth, one of the pillars of the state, and an assistant and reserve of the CPC. Over the past century, the CYL, together with generations of the youth, has been contributing a lot to the development of the CPC and the People’s Republic of China. In the universities, the CYL is in the closest relationship with all of the college students. Thus, with the development of society, the CYL is playing an increasingly important role in the political and ideological education of college students. As a result, in the universities, it has become a challenging issue to maintain the guiding position of Marxism in the increasingly fierce struggle in the domain of ideology. Fortunately, in the18th CPC National Congress held on November8,2012, Comrade Hu Jintao, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC and Chinese president, stresses in Report on the Work of the Government that we should promote prosperity, democracy, civility, and harmony, uphold freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law, and advocate patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship, so as to cultivate and observe core socialist values. These three "promotions" highly generalize the main idea of core socialist values and provide guidance for expansion of the CYL in the college political and ideological education in a new era. Therefore, core socialist values should certainly provide the long-term theoretical guidance that the college political and ideological education must adhere to.This thesis, with the combination of the author’s working experience, aims to investigate and analyze the negative factors that exist in the current CYL in the college political and ideological education. From the perspective of some relevant theories concerning the CYL in political and ideological practice, the thesis summarizes and classifies the characteristics of the Communist Youth League members in the new era, and then points out that the efficiency of CYL in the college political and ideological education should be enhanced with the guidance of core socialist values, and more applicable countermeasures with great efficiency and timeliness should be adopted. By taking these steps, college students will grow up healthily and all-around, and then will be inspired to make more contribution to the fulfillment of China Dream. The thesis consists of four parts. Chapter One mainly introduces the background, purpose, theoretical foundation, significance and research methodology. Chapter Two further analyzes the relationship between core socialist values and the CYL in the college political and ideological education. Based on the sound analysis of the connotation of core socialist values and relevant theories, the thesis discusses the significance of practicing the CYL in the college political and ideological education with the guidance of core socialist values. Chapter Three, with the combination of the author’s working experience, investigates and analyzes the current conditions of the CYL in the college political and ideological education, and then manages to recognize problems and find ways out. As the core of the thesis, Chapter Four puts forward some countermeasures with the guidance of core socialist values, including to educate students culture-orientedly, to educate students organization-orientedly, to educate students practice-orientedly and to educate students activity-orientedly.
