Magazine is very important for the development of the society as an important one among the media. Magazine industry is also been focused on its development as one important element within the culture industry. The development of magazine industry in Beijing will take effects directly to the industry all over the country since (1) magazine industry in China is greatly regionalized, and (2) Beijing is an important region for publications in the country.The paper intends to (1) find out some comparative advantages of magazine industry in Beijing and (2) to find out how to make full use of its comparative advantages with the purpose of being converted into competitive advantages for the further development of magazine industry in the region, based on the analyses of the current situation of the magazine industry in Beijing and its relevant trends. The author considers the magazine industry in Beijing as the major objective with the application of comparative advantage theory from the field of economics while.This paper consists of five parts. Firstly, (1) to find out the feasibility of introducing the comparative advantage theory to the magazine studies by analyzing the meaning of comparative advantages for the magazine industry; and then (2) to discuss the comparative advantages of the circumstances of the development of magazine industry in Beijing with the application of some theories of media ecology studies; (3) to review the comparative advantages of the current situation of magazine industry in Beijing; (4) to analyze the comparative advantages of magazine industry in Beijing from its types by way of data studies and case studies of magazines in the region; (5) to build the SWOT matrix of magazine industry in Beijing based on the analyses above with the purpose of finding out how to convert those comparative advantages into competitive advantages for magazine industry in Beijing. Lastly, the author puts forward some suggestions for the development of magazine industry in Beijing.The innovation and creativity of this paper: firstly, (1) to introduce the comparative advantages theory for magazine studies in order to analyzing the development of magazine industry in Beijing; and then, (2) to review the interactive relationship between magazines and the environment resource of the city; lastly, (3) to put forward some suggestions for the development of magazine industry in Beijing based on those comparative advantages analyses in the paper. |
