The Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) has been of great interest by researchers in the wireless telecommunication field. So far, there are mainly three standards about DTTB. In this thesis, the modulation technique in the European standard of Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T) is studied and the system is simulated.Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been applied to DVB-T due to its advantages of anti-multipath fading performance and high spectrum efficiency. However, the bandwidth efficiency is very low, since the pilots and guard intervals have taken up at least 10% of the whole bandwidth and even more than 30% when a long duration of guard interval is used. Furthermore, there are two main drawbacks with OFDM, the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and its sensitivity to frequency offset. It is under this background as mentioned above that this thesis studies and simulates DVB-T (CMSE-OFDM) system. In this thesis, through the study of the principle of OFDM and DVB-T standard, a new technique named Multi-Symbol Encapsulated OFDM (MSE-OFDM), which was recently proposed in order to overcome the two main drawbacks of OFDM, has been analyzed and applied to the DVB-T system together with channel coding. The main work of this thesis consists of the following three aspects:1. The performance of the MSE-OFDM scheme is analyzed and simulated, and a comparison is made between the traditional OFDM and MSE-OFDM on the bandwidth efficiency, sensitivity to the frequency offset and the high PAPR.2. A comparison and analysis is made when COFDM and CMSE-OFDM, including both CP-reduced MSE-OFDM and FFT size-reduced MSE-OFDM, has been applied to the DVB-T system respectively. And the system of DVB-T (CMSE-OFDM) has been constructed and simulated using MATLAB.3. The FPGA design and simulation of the channel coding in the DVB-T system has been completed using VHDL, including energy dispersal, outer coding, outer interleaving, inner coding, inner interleaving, etc.
