At present the networking is changed with passing day, the complexity of network grows unceasingly, so the request of network management increases day by day. Many problems in the traditional system, such as the configuration, the backup resume, resource sharing, system safety and performance optimization and so on, are now the network management important aspects. Since simple network management protocol SNMP has appeared, the network management technology developed by leaps and bounds in the short several years. Along with the enhancement of the management function and the expansion of the management object, the network management technology opens the eyes to become the important and indispensable factor in the network construction and the maintenance.Along with the microprocessor technology's development, the embedded system already became an important area of computer components. It can greatly enhance the intelligence and expand communication capabilities union with the communication and networking technology. Linux, because of its good features, is widely used in a variety of embedded systems. So realizes the network management function based on embedded Linux is a very meaningful work.This article work has designed and has realized an agent system based on the SNMP network management protocol, which can manage the video monitoring optical transmission equipment. With the network management technology research, particularly the SNMP network protocol research, I have designed this network management system as a whole pramgram, including the design of the embedded hardware platform, the design of SNMP network management protocol software as well as the design of the communication protocol. Also has realized the SNMP hardware, the software management platform. The hardware platform mainly completes ARM control module as well as peripheral circuit's design which is actually a small ARM embedded system. In the software part, analyse the principle of SNMP network protocol profoundly and the management parameters of the managed eguipmenet (video monitoring fiber optic transmission equipment). Also realize the agent software based on the NET-SNMP code package, and the equipment communication module code. All the software are running on the ARM small embedded systems, realize the function of good performance management, fault diagnosis management and configuration management capabilities. And, the entire network management system have been done experiments and the network management test many times, finally used the Mibbrowse9.0 software to test the network management agent, obtains the test result, and carried on the test with the management station PC software to the network management agent, prove each function this network management agent system to be able very good realization.
