As the needs of digital multimedia technology increasing more and more, the video image processing technology develops rapidly, also the performance of digital video processing and compressing has been improved obviously, quality assessment of these technology become a new topic in this area. Evaluating the efficiency of these technology could really help us to find the weakness of them and provide reliable bases for improving these technology.First of all, the paper gave a briefing description of various video image processing technology taking actual products as an example, also gave some introduction of the role of these processing techniques intuitivly. Then, the paper decribed some details of the images and video subjective and objective quality evaluation methods, introduced the basic concept, gave some in-depth analysis of the principles of the evaluation methods and classification and the current objective quality assessment techniques based on the human visual system. The paper also described in detail the characteristics of human visual system, and then, the paper gave a no reference objective quality evaluation method, also gave the results of this approach. The experimental results show that the method consist with subjective DMOS indicators, so this method can accurately reflect the subjective quality of image and video. Then, the paper gave some detailed analysis of de-interlacing, scaling techniques which were commonly used in video processing equipment, also gave some analysis of the possible drawback of these techiniques . We designed some test and evaluating method according to these possible drawbacks and the experimental results show that the evaluating method work well.
