The Design And Implement Of Subjective Assessment Assistant System Of Video Quality

During the progress of collection, compression, transmission and restore, digital video data will make some distortion and this will influence video quality. For example, video compression and coding for lowering video program rate will make video quality worse. While transmitted in noise channel, channel error code will increase distortion rate of decoded video. IP network congestion will also cause data packet lost and influence video quality. It is necessary to assess video quality for measuring end-to-end video quality of application system.At present, there are two kinds of video quality assessment, that is, objective assessment and subjective assessment. Objective assessment is manipulated easily and its result analysis is convenient, but video quality is reflected incompletely with this method, because human eyes are final sink and objective model couldn't fully simulate human visual system. Subjective assessment could reflect video quality truly, but this way is operated complicit and low efficient.International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has released a series of standards about video quality assessment, but the whole progress is low efficient. In order to improve the efficiency and automation of subjective assessment of video quality, an assistant system is developed, which can do great favor to task arrangement and result analysis and so on. This system meets need of arranging quality assessment test flexibly and controlling test process for testers and analyzes result automatically, which make test more quickly and efficiently.This paper introduces main method and current research situation of subjective and objective assessment of video quality firstly. Secondly, these standards about subjective assessment of TV picture and multimedia application are present. Thirdly, according to methods referred to standards, video quality subjective assessment assistant system is designed and implemented.At present, this system has been in use in Picture Subjective Assessment Office of Academy of Broadcasting Planning, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and increased efficiency of subjective assessment and achieves prospective purpose.
