Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the microwave radar which has the characteristics of all-weather, day/night, long range and high-resolution. Be compared with the general radar in system, SAR has the characteristics of high data rate, huge dada, complex arithmetic and difficulty of real-time processing. At present, with the rapid development of the technology of the bulky and high-speed parallel computer, the research of SAR real-time signal processing has made a great progress. Most of SAR imaging systems are designed by exploiting DSP because of their flexibility and high resolution presently. However, the limitation of DSP is emerged gradually for its weak real-time processing ability and high power consumption.According to the principle of SAR imaging and using FPGA with the high performance of the digital signal processing, an integrated SAR system design is given. This paper mainly discusses SAR imaging,real-time SAR imaging system and related algorithm based on FPGA. Real-time SAR imaging system based on FPGA is discussed in detail; besides a high-speed parallel processing system is described. The FPGA realization of R-D imaging algorithm, azimuth pre-filter and sinc function interpolation algorithm are elaborated. Finally, we summarize the works and point out the issue that will be resolved further.
