| The dominant of virtual enterprise (VE) pattern is applauded and publicized by academia. VE is regarded as the prime production organization pattern in the 21st century. And it is regarded as an effective approach for advancing the ability of survival and competition of the small and medium-sized enterprise because of the characteristics that VE could gain the ability of agile manufacturing by the way of integrating complementary core competences which come from its members in short time. However, effective control ability among members is absent because VE is only a short-lived alliance, and the anticipation of performance management (PM) of VE is not able to be grasped because the performance management system (PMS) of VE is not capable to deposit and evolve in so short time than the PMS of entity enterprise (EE). Currently, the bottleneck restricting the development of VE is attributed to the absence of an effective PM method.Firstly, in this paper, the conception of enterprise business process and six flows in business process is presented, the conception of PMS and a PM framework for EE is discussed, the essence of virtual enterprises is further discussed, the view is given on the differences and conjunctions on performance managements between EE and VE, and the conception of manufacturing grid (MGrid) technology is introduced.And then, colligating the knowledge of business process, MGrid, VE and PM, an idea of manufacturing grid based VE operation platform (MG-VEOP) is presented for resolving the PM bottleneck of VE. The structure of MG-VEOP is interpreted from four aspects: the establishing of VE, the collaboration of business process among members, the study ability of MG-VEOP, and the measures of EE capturing opportunities in MG-VEOP.In the next place, based on the theory of Balanced Score Card (BSC), a PMS framework of MG-VEOP would been established by taking the degrees of satisfaction with member selection in learning and growth perspective, business process collaboration among members in internal business perspective, the product-delivered time to customer in customer perspective, and the production cost in financial perspective, as the top layer performance indictors of PM for VE.There among, it is emphasized that member selection is important for PM of VE. For the appearance of a VE with agility and highly effectiveness, summing up the factors in candidates' individual performances, member integration performance, and the interest of dominant enterprise, a method is proposed to implement member selection with three steps: sub-task-based selection, integration-based selection, and selecting based on interest of VE organizer. With these processes, performance evaluations related to member selection can be obtained. The business process prototype is demonstrated by Unified Modeling Language (UML), and use case diagram, activity diagram and state diagram for MG-VEOP is given.At last, a conclusion is given for summarizing the content studied in this paper,Finally, a conclusion is given for summarizing the main research contents and technical innovations in this paper.
