The computer fundamental courses in East China Normal University mainly aimed at the training of basic computer knowledge and technology for the entrants in the university. Although the hardware environment is superior, for the lack of interrelated courses' learning platform, the courses teaching method remains still in the traditional face-to-face form. In order to build a learning platform to meet the teaching requirements of the fundamental courses under the present financial conditions and hardware environment, the major learning platforms in the world were compared and the related educational theoryies were studied in this paper. Based on these research results, a courses-supportted learning platform was built, and the related teaching process was designed with the combination of educational theories to meet the specific needs of courses to help students learn better on the computer fundamental courses.Firstly, theories about E-learning and learning platforms are studied in this paper. Then the major learning platforms in the world were compared by literature research methods and information analysis. As a result Moodle platform was selected as a foundation to build the courses' learning platform. Moodle is an open-source learning platform based on the constructivism. Many usefull functions of Moodle can be used to build a low-cost, high-efficiency virtual learning environment. Therefore, by analyzing the related theories, platform features and system architecture of Moodle, its installation and deployment as the courses environment was achieved in the paper. After analysing computer fundamental courses' needs, Moodle's functions on training were divided into three parts: system administrator management functions, teaching activities functions and teaching resources functions. The computer fundamental courses' learning platform were built and deployed on the research of these three parts as the basic works of the courses' teaching process designing afterwards.During the designing of teaching process which supported by the computer fundamental courses' learning platform based on Moodle, blended learning theory was used as an instruction. Through the research of the blended learning theory and the analysis of Moodle training functions above, by combining the four teaching sections in blended learning theories with the specific needs of the courses, the teaching process of the computer fundamental courses was designed, and it was practised in the computer technology (science) course as a sample. By the research on the functions and application of the computer fundamental courses learning platform based on Moodle, several deficiencies were found in the Moodle's test system module. In order to meet the specific needs of these courses, LAMP technology was used on the designing and developing a new test system. Software engineering methods were also used to increases the possibility of its implementation. The final implemented test system has four improvements compared with the former test system module in Moodle: convenient item-import function, supporting integrated random test paper generation function, convenient and efficient operation interface, and high system flexibility. The newly implemented test system has improved the training activity functions of this learning platform, so that students can learn the computer fundamental courses better on it.It is proved that the researches and practices on combining the blended learning theories into a learning platform on the college computer fundamental courses in this paper have achieved a better teaching effectiveness.
