With the development of Internet and mobile communication technology, the users of mobile computers are expecting to get access to Internet freely and to share public resources with others like desk-top users. IETF published the Mobile IPv6 Protocol to solve the problem. However, there are still some limitations such as long handover delay and high packets loss ratio which can't meet demands of real-time applications in Mobile IPv6 Protocol. Presently the hot research of Mobile IPv6 Protocol is focusing on how to reduce the handover delay and improve the handover smooth.A general study of handover in Mobile IPv6 is made in this thesis. Firstly, the concepts and handover technology of Mobile IPv6 are presented, and the shortage of handover in Mobile IPv6 also is presented. Then two improved technologies for Mobile IPv6 handover (FMIPV6 and HMIPv6) are discussed, and the shortage of each one is presented. Then a detailed analysis for the handover performance of each one is made. In the basis of analysis, we introduce an improved handover technology (IFMIPv6) with the New Access Router configures the mobile node's CoA in order to decrease the DAD time for NCoA. In this way, the probability of "Predictive" Fast Handover is increase, and the performance of handover also can be improved.In order to verify the validity and effectively of IFMIPv6, simulation experiments are executed and compared with other handover technology with NS-2. Simulation results show that this handover technology can improve the handover latency and the package loss. It is viable and effective.
