With the fast development of tourism industry, tourism planning becomes more and more important in China. From the later part of 1970th to now, China's tourism industry has experienced several periods. Although it has made big progress in the past 30 years, China's tourism planning has some problems that need to be solved to cater to the better development of twenty-first century.The preface introduced the present condition of development of tourism industry at home and abroad. Because of the fast growth of tourism industry, the demand for tourism planning is ever-growing. Tourism planning in China experienced four periods, including the beginning period, high speed development period, adjustment period, scientific planning period. The requirement for tourism planning is higher and higher. In this context, the author feels tourism planning needs creativity and intrduced this article's theme—The application of eco-thinking in tourism planning.Eco-thinking is a new concept. Because it is closely related to the concept of eco-tourism, the author emphasised the research situation and evaluation of eco-tourism and environment studies. On the basis of these, the author analysed the relationship betweeen eco-thinking and eco-tourism and suggested the importance of this thesis.The theoretical background of eco-thinking is ecological study, so the author introduced the development course of it. Then the author suggested the related theories of tourism study and planning and the defination and core points of eco-thinking.The author explained the concept of eco-thinking from the perspectives of tourism marketing, psychology, environment, philosophy and tourism resourses. On the one hand, it further helped the understanding of eco-thinking, on the other hand, it furnished new guidelines for tourism planning.The application of eco-thinking in tourism planning includes four parts—tourism marketing, tourism influence, tourism capacity and tourism planning management. In this chapter, the author applied the concepts of green GDP, eco-marketing and tourism environmental capacity into the research of tourism planning. The main purpose is to make it practicable in tourism planning.In the last chapter, the author made a summery of the above-mentioned theories and reinstated the main content of this thesis. The author raised some deficiencies of the thesis and suggested some unfinished problems for later further research.
