Employee Assistant Program (acronym EAP) is a new popular welfare system, which is widely being used in the west (especially in USA). EAP is offered by the organization to its personnel, and based on such theory as "respect for people" , "pay respect to people" , which is the thinking of the human resource capital management. The programs show important effect of the psychology on enterprise management so that it promotes the integration of management and psychology. With the rapid development of the EAP, its content becomes more and more in accord with HR management. Some experts even think that EAP would become an important part of main management theory about organization interference and the development of organization.The concept of an EAP started in America in the early 1940's. The companies offer EAP to solve the problems of alcohol and drug abuse so as to improve employees' mental health and physical health. With the expansion of the multinational corporation and the intercourse of culture between countries, EAP spread all over the world. EAP made great progress not only in America but also in Canada, Japan, Australia, UK and so on. To the end of 1990's, over 90% of the world 500 strong enterprises have internal EAP or external EAP.EAP is a systemic long-term program that the enterprise offers to the personnel. Through the diagnosis and advice to the organization, the guidance, consultation and training that are offered to the employees and their relatives, professionals help company solve the employees' mental and health problems so as to improve the work effectiveness and organization management. From an angle of management, this paper considers EAP as a new humanity management method.EAP is suitable for any type of enterprise, whatever its size or its fields. But it is more suitable for some particular type of company, some particular departments of the company and some particular situation. For example, the companies that have over 100 employees, the company that have particular demand for security, the company that offer service, the departments that contact customer directly such as service department and sale department, the situation such as mergence, incipience of a company, cr i sis events.The theory background of EAP includes two theories principally, which is human resource capital management and stress management. The whole process of EAP based on the theory of human resource capital management, and every detail of EAP suggests human resource capital management perfectly. At present, especially in our country, stress management is the most important part in the whole EAP. Stress management theory greatly impacts on the process of EAP. So the people offering EAP should know we 11 about these two theories at first.EAP entered China lately, but it develops rapidly in recent years. The paper describes the circumstance of Chinese enterprises applying EAP. At the same time, the paper analyses the reason for Chinese enterprises applying for EAP, which are work stress, enterprise' s humane resource capital values, the impulse of professionals.EAP has not any stable model. There are different EAP models in different countries. Every country creates its particular model in the process of applying EAP. When EAP entered China, it is destined to come i nto so I e I y Ch i nese mode I. The paper creates a Ch i nese mode I of EAP, wh i ch includes basic characteristics, basic principles, basic elements and basic steps. The basic characteristics are obtained via analyzing the difference between china and the west in at I aspects. The basic pr incipIes i nc I ude the comb i nat i on between prevent i on and d i sposa I, the comb i nat i onbetween internal EAP and external EAP, the combination between solving particular problems and common problems, the combination between evaluation and feedback. The basic elements are evaluation, solving short-term problem, contact professionals directly, recommendation, the inquiry of crisis events, 24 hours crisis center, the training for managers, tracking, secrecy. The basic steps include drawing up a plan of EAP, looking for external EAP provider, training about EAP, assessing stress and finding problems, searching out reasons and solving problems, the evaluation of efficiency.At last, the paper cites and analyzes three cases. One is EAP of Leveno, which is the first integrated EAP in China. The other two are cases about individual mental consultation.
