An Economic Analysis Of Potato Industry In China

China is the largest country of potato production in the world. There is a big market for China to develop it' s potato industry. But the potato products especially processing products of china are scarce of international competition as for undeveloped technology of potato cultivation and processing. The domestic market and international market of potato will connected with each other after Chinese entry into the WTO, then potato products with high quality made by developed countries will pouring into and occupy domestic market, and this will be a strong impact to Chinese potato industry. So, it is very necessary and impendency to analysis Chinese potato industry in economic view and study its policies concerned. The present research involving principles of economics, agricultural economics and international trade and crop cultivation to analyse the development of potato industry in China systemicly by means of integration of marco and micro-analysis, positive and normative studies and quantitative and qualitative analysis.The dissertation is composed of 6 chapters in addition to the preface. In the preface, the purpose and significance of carrying out the present research are clarified; the recent development of the research in this area at home and abroad is synthesized; the basic clue,research methods and structure of the dissertation are espounded; the main creative ideas are introduced. Chapter I introduces the history and the present status of the world's potato production and processing. Chapter II review the history of the increasing and changing of Chinese potato production, sum up the main character of the development of Chinese potato productions,analysis the regional comparative advantages of Chinese potato producing provinces by regional comparative advantage index AAI,and analysis the main affecting factor of the economic benefits of production. Chapter III describe Chinese potato processing industy.In this chapter, main types of Chinese processing products are clarified, main achievements and problems of Chinese potato processing industry are summarized on the base of describing the current situation of Chinese processing industry and the protential of potato processing industry is analysised. At last, technical situation of Chinese potato industry is summarized. ChapterIV introduces the present domestic consumption status of potato and predict the demand for potato products in the future,and this chapter also describes domesticconsumption market and international trade of China's potato products. Chapter V goes on to analysis the consequent compact on China potato industry once China gets enrolled in WTO.This chapter also analysis the international competitiveness of China's potato products by indexes such as Domestic Resource Cost (DRC), Net Social Profit (NSP), Effective Ratio of Protection (ERP) and Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA). Chapter VI put forward a series of policies ,measures and countermeasures for the development of China potato industry.
