Development Direction Of Farming In E'xi Mountainous Region

This article analyzes the resources and the present conditions of farming in E'xi mountainous region (the western mountainous region of Hubei province) and puts forward the development direction and the target of farming and the way to speed up the development.The natural resources in E'xi mountainous region have obvious characters. The cultivated land is of poor quality, the climate varies vertically, species of animals and plants are abundant, and natural calamity occurs frequently. The social and economic conditions are bad. The economy is not prosperous, the transportation is inconvenient, construction on farmland is bad, and the peasants' level is low.In E'xi mountainous region, grain crops primarily contain corn, rice and potato; cash crops contain rape, tea, orange, vegetable and medicine material; but forage crops have a very small proportion. Farming is influenced deeply bythe vertical climate and may be divided into 4 areas-the river valley areawith orange, grain, oil and vegetable, the low mountain area with tea, grain, oil, fruit and medicine material, the middle mountain area with medicine material, tea, germ, corn, potato and vegetable, and the high mountain area with medicine material, vegetable, corn and potato.E'xi mountainous region has advantage in locality, technique and environment. It's proper for characteristic products such as tea, orange, medicine and vegetable. However, It also has many problems to be solved properly such as high pressure of self-sufficient in grain, fragile ecological environment, and poor transport facilities.This article puts forward the development direction and the target of farming in E'xi mountainous region. The development direction of farming may be divided into 3 parts. Firstly, farming structure needs to be adjusted and farming may be supported by five kinds of key products ( grain, fruit, tea, vegetable and medicine material ). Secondly, protecting ecological environment and takingadvantage of vertical climates, comprehensive multi-storied and dimension agriculture must be developed. Finally, standardization management system must be set up to improve the quality and the competitive ability of products.At last, this article puts forward the way to speed up the development. The construction of country roads and etc. must be quickened to improve the situation of agriculture. Advanced techniques need to be adopted to increase yield and improve quality with agriculture extension system being developed and peasants being trained. And the peasants need to be organized into specialized associations.
