| Traditional international trade theory takes comparative advantage as the basis ofinternational trade. However, scholars have found the so-called "Trap of ComparativeAdvantage" in the performance of the export of agricultural product since China'sentry of WTO. Further studies indicated that comparatively advantageous agriculturalproducts' lack of international competitiveness has been the cause of this situation.Given the current circumstances that the market is not perfectly competitive, resource endowment and relative cost based comparative advantage is only one of themany factors that affect the export of agricultural product, and studies on theinternational competitiveness of agricultural product should be conducted within theframe of competitive advantage which further includes price, differentiation andenterprise organization. Current studies are mainly focused on the product itself andconducted at the macro and industrial level. However, the internationalcompetitiveness of a product is always decided by the resources owned by theproducers;given the same industrial circumstances, similar resources will also bringdifferent outcomes according to the way they are organized. For this reason, exportingenterprises' choice of competitive strategy should be an important part of the study onthe improvement of the competitiveness of agricultural productResource-Based View stresses the great importance of resources to competitiveadvantage;it starts from the excavation of strategically valuable resources and helpsenterprises recognize, acquire, cultivate and organize resources answering for certaincharacteristic, thus creating the sustainable competitive advantage. This articleanalyzes four kinds of competitive advantage, i.e. price, differentiation, organizationand risk control, utilizing RBV theory to construe their competitive strategy and seeksto provide reference for other domestic agricultural product exporters. |
