Tobacco is one of the most widely planted crops in the world.There are currently more than 120 countries and regions that grow tobacco,and tobacco-growing countries are almost all over the world.Tobacco products has a huge consumer groups in the world,accounting for about one-sixth of the world's population,therefore,the trade volume of tobacco products has been increasing,tobacco trade has become an important part of agricultural trade and it occupied an very important position in international trade.The imports and exports of Chinese tobacco products respectively were $39.952 billion and $40.570 billion.While the imports and exports of Chinese tobacco products respectively accounted for 4.30% and 2.73% of its world's tobacco products,it was far behind that compared with other trading powerful countries.So China should be committed to vigorously develop the trade of Chinese tobacco products,improve the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products.China is not only a big country of tobacco products production,but also a large country of tobacco products consumption,but it is not a trading powerful country of tobacco products,it is indicated that the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products has been in a weak state.Therefore,by means of consulting the literature and books and referencing to the existing research achievements,this article was based on the theory of international trade,analyzed the trade situation of Chinese tobacco products by way of three aspects that included trade scale,trade structure and market structure,then analyzed comprehensively the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products by an index system that was composed of the revealed comparative advantage(RCA)index,the trade competitiveness(TC)index,the competitive advantage(CA)index,the revealed competitiveness(RC)index.The research showed that the trade proportion of Chinese tobacco products is very low,and the market structure is disequilibrium and is facing high trade risk.Overall,the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products approximately showed a downward trend and has been in a weak state,and it had a big gap that compared with other trading powerful countries.The international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco leaves approximately showed a fluctuating-downward trend and gradually weakened.Chinese cigars were almost no international competitiveness,but its international competitiveness has improved in recent years.Relative to other tobacco products,the international competitiveness of Chinese cigarettes was relatively strong,but its international competitiveness has shown a downward trend.Other tobacco products possessed international competitiveness,but theirs international competitiveness was very weak.Then this article analyzed the advantage factors on the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products that included four perspectives of resource advantage,category advantage,price advantage and market location advantage,analyzed the disadvantage factors on the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products that included four perspectives of quality below international standard,lowly technical utilization rate and self-invention rate,unbalanced export market,low brand reputation.At last,the author put forward some suggestions on how to improve the international competitiveness of Chinese tobacco products,as follows,pledging quality standards that are in line with international standards,promoting technical application and innovation,and actively expanding the export market,consummating the export marketing channel,strengthening brand construction.
