Impact Of Technical Barriers To Trade On China's Export And Countermeasures

During the past 20 years, Chinese foreign trade has made a hugeachievement. However, actually, the development of our foreign trade isnot smooth. After China joined the WTO, tariffs have been reducedincreasingly. But at the same time, non-tariff barriers includingtechnological rules and regulations, specifications and quarantine lawsare used by more and more developed countries to lower imports andprotect local industries. These barriers related to technology are calledtechnical barriers to trade, which have become the most importantbarriers impeding China's export.Given this scenario, it's quite necessary to study the impact oftechnical barriers to trade on China's export and give countermeasures.In chapter one, general theoretical analysis on technical barriers totrade has been made and main technical barriers China encounters havebeen introduced. In chapter two, the author has introduced the Agreementon Technical Barriers to Trade, which is playing the most important rolein this field. Chapter three is about the impact of technical barriers onChina's export, including the general situation of China's export undertechnical barriers and the analysis on the impact. In chapter four, reasonswhy China often encounters technical barriers have been analyzed fromfour main aspects, such as transformation effects of trade barriers,slowness in upgrading Chinese industrial structure, antiquated system ofstandardizing management, and defects of Chinese enterprises. Finally,Countermeasures for Chinese government and enterprises have been putforward in chapter five.Technical barriers to trade are not impossible to break through, aslong as we realize the importance of them fully and make great effort toeliminate our weaknesses. By doing these, China's export will surelyhave a bright future.
