An Empirical Analysis On The Relationship Between Environmental Quality And Economic Growth In Liaoning

With the rapid economic growth since reform and openness in China, a variety of environmental problems are emerging, leading the government to face the environmental protection challenge while developing economy. Therefore, how to promote the coordinated development of economy and environment becomes the key issue in current society. As an old northeastern industrial base, Liaoning is also confronted with many environment problems and it is necessary for us to study the relationship between environment and economy, as well as its influencing factors in Liaoning so as to coordinate the development of economy and environment according to the fact in Liaoning.This paper starts with empirically analyzing the relationship between environmental quality and economic growth by means of econometric model and on basis of historical data in Liaoning to find out the medium and long-term trend of environmental quality and explain it in aspect of economics. Then, It directionally and quantitatively studies how such factors as industry structure, population and foreign trade make influences on environmental quality, leading to deviate from the fit curve and short-term partial fluctuation, as well as how these factors influence the medium and long-term trend of environmental quality with economic growth in a long run. Finally, based on the fact and the above result, the paper put forwards some policy suggestions over the continuous development of environment and economy.There are four main parts in this paper as follows:(1) Theoretical analysis on the relationship between enviroment and economy(2) Current situation of environment and economic growth in Liaoning(3) Empirical research on the curve relationship between economic growth and environmental quality and its rationality and possibility.(4) Directional and Quantitative analysis on the external factors' influences over environmental quality and the reason for the curve deviation and short-term partial fluctuation.This paper comes to the following conclusion:Firstly, in the medium and long term, environmental developing path in Liaoning is an S curve, which means the environmental quality will firstly be degraded and then improved and then degraded again with the economic growth. The solid and noise pollution path is an inversed U curve.Secondly, The relationship between economic growth and environmental quality may change with the Marginal Scale of the investment in environmental protection. In the long run, the curve relationship between environmental quality and economic growth presents an alternation of several U and inversed U curves.Thirdly, the industry structure, population and trade make great influences on the environmental quality, which will make the environmental quality deviate from the S or U curve and cause the fluctuation of the environmental quality in the short run, and will change the S or U curve when the influence reach a degree.
