In the study of regional economy, Growth Pole Theory is well recognized as the guidingtheory for regional development, which is of great significance to the study on improvementand development of undeveloped region. Since Francois Perroux proposed Growth PoleTheory in 1950s, it has taken distinctive effect on economy development strategy and policyin both developed and developing countries. To stop the subsiding tendency of central region and prompt the coordinateddevelopment of regional economy in China, the Party Central Committee put forwardstrategies for up-rise of central region to bring along the fully, coordinated and sustainabledevelopment of the whole national economy in virtue of central region's strategy advantage oflinking the west and east together. After the strategy was put forward, governments, academyand research institutes of all levels devote themselves in the study of " Central Region Up-riseStrategy" ,seeking the optimized strategic policy for central region's rapid and steady up-riseso as to prompt the coordinated development of all regions. This thesis, by studying onGrowth Pole Theory and its applications of both home and abroad, points out that theimportant approach to central region up-rise is to foster the growth pole of central region andaccelerate the development of "urban agglomerations".There are so many reasons for the backwardness of central region. But through thepositive analysis of relationship between development status, urbanization level and economicgrowth in central region, this thesis points out that there is a stable ratio relationship betweenurbanization level and economic growth, the relativity between which is high, and theurbanization level is the Granger Cause of economic growth. So, the backwardness ofurbanization is the significant cause that limits the economic growth of central region. At last, the thesis suggests that construction of urban agglomerations and the fostering of growth poleof central region are needed to speed the process of urbanization and improve cities' corecompetence, which will prompt the rapid economic growth of central region and speed thecoordinated development of regional economy in China.
