With the development of China's new urbanization, population and economic activities are accelerating to urban concentration, and urban spatial form is gradually evolving from a single city to an urban agglomeration. The competition among cities is more and more manifested as the competition among the urban agglomerations centering on the core cities.China attaches great importance to the development of urban agglomerations. In the national new urbanization plan,it is proposed to make urban agglomerations an important platform to support national economic growth, promote coordinated regional development and participate in international competition and cooperation. In the 13 th five-year plan,19 urban agglomerations are proposed to be built and developed, among which 9 urban agglomerations including the middle reaches of the Yangtze river,Harbin-Changchun,Chengdu-Chongqing,Yangtze river delta, central plains,Beibuwan,Guanzhong,Hubaoeyu and Lanxi urban agglomeration have been officially approved by the state council. The geographical environment, resource endowment and economic and social development of the regions where these urban agglomerations are located are different, which inevitably leads to different spatial structures. As the "indicator" of the spatial distribution and organizational status of regional development,as well as the "booster" and "regulator" of regional development, the rationality of regional spatial structure is closely related to regional economic development. It is of great theoretical and practical significance for the future construction and development of urban agglomerations to compare and study the urban agglomerations in different regions and at different development stages from the perspective of spatial structure and summarize the rules. After more than two centuries of development, abundant achievements have been made in the study of regional spatial structure.Among them, the "Pole-axis" system theory is a spatial structure theory with Chinese characteristics put forward by professor lu daoao,a famous geographer in China, according to the theory of central place and the theory of growth pole. The theory of "Pole-axis" system has an important influence on Chinese academic circles and national strategic decision-making,and plays an important scientific guiding role in the layout and improvement of national economic structure.Based on the "Pole-axis" system theory, this paper conducts a comparative study on the spatial structure of the above approved 9 urban agglomerations, further reveals the internal development rules of different regions, and draws the following conclusions: First,From the comparison of urban agglomeration points(core cities),the number of cities covered by urban agglomerations varies greatly. The Yangtze river delta urban agglomeration in the eastern region?urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze river and Zhongyuan urban agglomeration covers a large number of cities. In the western region, except for the Chengdu-chongqing urban agglomeration, the number of cities covered by other urban agglomerations is small, and there are only 6 cities in the Lanxi urban agglomeration and 4 cities in the Hubaoeyu urban agglomeration. The economic growth of core cities is generally higher than the average level of urban agglomerations, and the proportion of economy in the urban agglomeration has increased. The core cities are usually the highest administrative level, such as municipalities directly under the central government and provincial capitals. The population and economic growth of core cities are generally higher than the average level of urban agglomerations, and their core status is further consolidated.Urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze river and Zhongyuan urban agglomeration, their scale structure of the city is the most reasonable,This shows that the high level of economic development does not mean that the scale structure of the city is reasonable.Second,From the comparison of the development axes of urban agglomerations,it can be seen that due to different stages of development and different geographical locations, the number and shape of development axes of urban agglomerations also show diversity. The development axis of urban agglomerations in the eastern and central regions is mostly "radial",the relatively backward urban agglomerations in the western region, such as Guanzhong, lanxi and Hubaoeyu urban agglomeration have "strip" development axis. The main development axes of urban agglomerations are consistent with those of the whole country. Finally, from the perspective of the overall economic and population aggregate and increment of each urban agglomeration, the development level of each urban agglomeration varies greatly.
